Resident Evil

The 2002 horror film *Resident Evil* launched one of the most iconic zombie-action franchises, loosely based on the video game series of the same name. Written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, the film stars Milla Jovovich as Alice, an amnesiac supersoldier, and Michelle Rodriguez as Rain, a commando. The plot unfolds beneath Raccoon City in a genetic research facility called the Hive, owned by the Umbrella Corporation, where a stolen genetically engineered T-virus contaminates the facility. In response, the facility's artificial intelligence, the Red Queen, seals the Hive and kills everyone inside to prevent the virus from leaking. The film follows Alice and a band of Umbrella Corporation commandos as they attempt to contain the outbreak.
