DNA Sequencer

The DNA Sequencer has driven the genomics revolution by enabling the reading of entire genomes in hours. This was a significant leap from Frederick Sanger’s 1977 manual chain-termination method, which could sequence approximately 80 bases per run. Today's nanopore sequencers, such as those developed by Oxford Nanopore Technologies, are capable of decoding a human genome, consisting of 3 billion base pairs, in under 24 hours. This rapid sequencing capability produces vast amounts of data essential for personalized medicine and cancer genomics, allowing for the identification of genetic mutations and predispositions. However, the accuracy of early sequencing technologies was a trade-off, with error rates that have progressively been reduced in newer generations of sequencers.
