Ming Dynasty (1368–1644 CE)

The Ming Dynasty (1368–1644 CE) left an indelible architectural legacy, most notably by constructing the final Great Wall and the Forbidden City. Its naval power was showcased through Admiral Zheng He's seven voyages across the Indian Ocean between 1405 and 1433, reaching as far as the coast of East Africa. This era saw a significant population surge, estimated to be over 150 million by 1600, partly driven by agricultural innovations such as the widespread adoption of sweet potatoes. Despite these achievements, the dynasty pursued increasingly isolationist policies, limiting foreign trade and cultural exchange. This internal focus ultimately contributed to its decline, contrasting with later periods of outward expansion.
