Yuan Dynasty (1271–1368 CE)
The Yuan Dynasty (1271–1368 CE), established by Kublai Khan, played a pivotal role in connecting China to the largest trade network of the medieval era. It facilitated extensive trade across the Silk Road, linking Persia to Eastern Europe, with the famed Venetian explorer Marco Polo documenting his travels within the empire around 1275. The dynasty introduced paper money as legal tender, which streamlined commercial transactions across its vast territory. However, despite its initial success in fostering trade and cultural exchange, the widespread issuance of paper money eventually led to severe inflation, contributing to economic instability and ultimately weakening the dynasty's rule.
