Pope Leo XIV's Encyclical Magnifica Humanitas Published May 25

Pope Leo XIV's first encyclical, Magnifica Humanitas, published May 25, became one of the most-discussed papal stories ever on Hacker News, topping 1,600 points and nearly 1,000 comments. The document from the first American-born pontiff addresses technology and human dignity, and even drew a smaller companion thread questioning whether AI had a hand in writing it. Commentary ranged from theological analysis to debate over AI's role in shaping the text itself.
