Robert Pattinson as Batman (2022)

Robert Pattinson's casting as Batman in *The Batman* (2022) initially provoked a strong negative reaction from fans, drawing comparisons to the fervent backlash that followed Heath Ledger's casting as the Joker years prior. Online petitions circulated, with one popular petition garnering over 50,000 signatures demanding Warner Bros. reconsider their choice for the Caped Crusader. Despite the initial uproar, Pattinson's performance in the Matt Reeves-directed film ultimately garnered widespread critical acclaim. His portrayal, lauded for its grounding in psychological realism and a darker, more brooding take on the character, transformed what was once a divisive announcement into a career-defining role. The film itself was a commercial success, grossing over $772 million worldwide. Pattinson's ability to overcome intense fan skepticism and deliver a compelling, critically praised performance solidified his interpretation as one of the most memorable live-action depictions of Batman in recent cinematic history.
