Taliban Ban on Girls' Secondary Education
Afghanistan remains the only country worldwide to officially ban girls from secondary education, a policy affecting over 1.1 million female students and drawing more international condemnation than any other education restriction on this list. The ban, enforced since 2021, has erased 30% of the country's secondary school enrollment for girls, creating a generation denied basic learning opportunities. Compared to India's National Education Policy 2020, which introduces mother-tongue instruction, this policy represents a complete reversal of educational access, making it uniquely severe in scope and human impact.

Standardized Testing Abolition Movements
Standardized Testing Abolition Movements have transformed college admissions, with over 1,800 US institutions adopting test-optional policies since the pandemic. This shift, while reducing reliance on high-stakes exams, has introduced new opacity: admissions now lean heavily on subjective criteria like essays and recommendations, making the process less transparent than the traditional model. The movement’s data-led impact shows a 15% increase in applications from underrepresented groups, yet a 20% rise in confusion over selection standards, outpacing the average policy change in controversy.
