The Last Supper

Leonardo da Vinci's "The Last Supper," created between 1495 and 1498, stands as one of history's most ambitious and influential frescoes. Located in the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy, this monumental mural depicts the dramatic moment when Jesus announces that one of his disciples will betray him. Da Vinci's experimental use of tempera and oil on a dry plaster wall, rather than traditional fresco techniques, unfortunately led to its rapid deterioration within two decades of its completion. Despite these challenges and centuries of neglect, including surviving wartime bombing, the painting remains a captivating draw, with approximately 1,500 ticketed visitors admiring it daily. Its historical and artistic significance was recognized when it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980.
