The Scream
Edvard Munch's "The Scream" is a powerful and unsettling masterpiece that profoundly expresses modern anxiety. The artist created four versions of "The Scream" between 1893 and 1910, including two painted versions and two pastel versions. One of the pastel versions made headlines when it sold for nearly $120 million at Sotheby's in 2012, setting a new record for the highest price ever paid for a work of art at auction at that time. Each rendition depicts a skeletal figure screaming under a blood-red sky, a haunting image that has become a widely recognized symbol of the human condition and existential dread.
