Netflix publishes its own weekly Top 10, ranked purely by hours viewed, and it resets every week — so it rewards whatever just dropped, not necessarily what holds up. This list is curated instead: writing quality, whether a show survives a rewatch, and whether people are still talking about it once the premiere-week numbers fade.

Squid Game and Stranger Things are both closing out here, not just adding another season. A final season has to land an ending and tie off everything it opened, which is a harder job than extending a premise that's already working. That's a real reason to rate a good final season above a solid new season of something still ongoing.

Adolescence and Apple Cider Vinegar are both complete in a handful of episodes: one story, told once, with no multi-season commitment and no risk of the show losing its way later on. If you're deciding what to start this week rather than what to keep up with indefinitely, they're the lower-risk pick.
