Nemrut Dag

Nemrut Dag features a breathtaking mountaintop sanctuary, built for King Antiochus I of Commagene in 62 BC, at an elevation of 2,150 meters above sea level. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, inscribed in 1987, is renowned for its colossal stone heads, some weighing up to 6 tons, depicting gods and kings from a blend of Hellenistic and Persian pantheons. The site’s east and west terraces showcase these monumental sculptures, along with other architectural fragments. While the journey to the summit can be challenging, the panoramic views and the awe-inspiring scale of the ancient artwork make Nemrut Dag a uniquely rewarding experience, particularly at sunrise or sunset.
