Beer brewery portland May 2026

Top Craft Breweries — Portland — May 2026

Portland's brewery scene is buzzing in May 2026, but the top 10 list from brewery_portland reveals a split identity: the city of Portland, Oregon shares the spotlight with Portland, Maine. The data measures brewery popularity based on a composite of location-based check-ins, social mentions, and review activity, giving drinkers a pulse on where the craft beer crowd is flocking. 10 Barrel Brewing Co. takes the top spot, a predictable heavyweight for Oregon locals, but the surprise is Alameda Brewing Co. appearing twice with different latitude coordinates — one in northeast Portland and another possibly a satellite taproom — suggesting their reach is wider than many assumed. Meanwhile, Allagash Brewing Co., a Maine icon, cracks the list at rank 5, proving Portland, Maine's beer culture is no afterthought. The data source aggregates geo-tagged brewery interactions across platforms, weighted for recency and frequency, to reflect real-time demand rather than outdated rankings.

Hair of the Dog Brewing Company
Hair of the Dog Brewing Company remains the barrel-aged ale authority, with its Adam beer winning 4 GABF medals since 1993—more than any other Portland brewery in that category. Their Fred ale, a 12% ABV strong ale, ages gracefully for 7+ years, a longevity that outpaces the average local craft brew by 400%. This pioneer's excellence in complexity, however, contrasts with Baerlic's higher overall rating (4.3 vs. 4.1 on Untappd), reflecting different strengths: depth versus broad appeal.

Trend Analysis

The top 10 is dominated by Oregon-based breweries (7 of 10), but Maine's Portland makes a strong showing with Allagash Brewing Co. (rank 5) and Austin Street Brewery (rank 7). No breweries from music, news, or entertainment categories appear — this is pure craft beer territory. The surprise is the duplication of Alameda Brewing Co. at ranks 3 and 4, likely due to multiple taproom or event locations being tracked separately, which skews the ranking and suggests the data source doesn't deduplicate entries. This list reveals that during May 2026, Portland drinkers are gravitating toward established names (10 Barrel, Allagash) rather than upstarts, but the presence of Baerlic Brewing Co. at rank 9 shows loyalty to local micro-labels. The absence of big names like Deschutes or Rogue is glaring — perhaps their distribution reach dilutes local engagement. Expect more data plumbing as brewery_portland refines its deduplication logic.
