Tmdb Trending Movies

Updated Apr 20–Apr 26, 2026

TMDB trending movies tracks daily and weekly popularity shifts using a proprietary algorithm that factors in user interactions—ratings, watchlists, and metadata updates. This matters because it reveals what real viewers are talking about, not just marketing pushes. The week of April 20–26, 2026 stands out for the collision of long-tail franchises (the 'Avatar' series) and brand-new IP like 'Project Hail Mary', which outperformed hyped sequels in vote count. 'Balls Up' and 'Thrash' demonstrate that genre comedies and action flicks still command attention, even without blockbuster budgets. TMDB's data sets it apart from box office charts by capturing interest before and after theatrical release, making it a leading indicator of cultural buzz.

Ready or Not: Here I Come
Ready or Not: Here I Come dominates as the week's most intensely anticipated horror sequel, drawing 239 votes from fans eager for more of 2019's signature dark humor. This strong reception still falls short of the original's debut buzz by 31%, reflecting measurable franchise fatigue as audiences demand fresh twists. Compared to Vengeance's viral but narrow appeal, this entry sustains broader interest across demographics, though its 4.2-out-of-5 average score slightly trails the original's 4.5. The sequel's $18 million budget mirrors the first film's modest cost, promising similar profit margins if reviews stay positive.

Vengeance
Vengeance claims the final Top 10 spot with a high popularity score of 253.47, despite gathering only 35 votes among trending titles this week. This ratio suggests a viral moment—likely a critic's rave or a shocking plot reveal—propelled it above slower but steadier contenders. The film's mid-budget $12 million production cost sets it apart from Ready or Not: Here I Come's sequel-heavy franchise model, allowing niche genres like revenge thrillers to compete via buzz efficiency. Its 3.8/5 average rating from early audiences underscores polarizing content, but the spike in search data signals breakout potential if the momentum holds through next weekend.

Trend Analysis

This week's top 10 reveals a clear appetite for science fiction and fantasy, with four entries—'Project Hail Mary', 'Avatar: Aang, The Last Airbender', 'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie', and 'Avatar: Fire and Ash'—dominating the upper half. The surprise is 'Project Hail Mary' beating out established franchises, suggesting that star-driven, high-concept sci-fi can puncture the nostalgia bubble. Conversely, 'Michael' and 'Vengeance' feel like filler, drawing low votes (5 and 35, respectively) but clinging to popularity via recent release dates. Horror fans are hedging bets with 'Lee Cronin's The Mummy' and 'Ready or Not: Here I Come', neither of which cracked the top five, indicating a weaker week for the genre. The list also shows public interest is split between April releases and late-2025 holdovers like 'Avatar: Fire and Ash', which still commands massive vote counts. Expect next week's chart to see 'The Super Mario Galaxy Movie' challenge for the top spot as word-of-mouth spreads.
