Swiss Alps
The Swiss Alps set a high benchmark for prestige mountain coolcations, offering iconic peaks and precision infrastructure, and rank among the priciest options on this list. Average summer temperatures sit around 18°C at altitude, with Interlaken reaching the low 20s. The Jungfrau region is home to around 72 waterfalls and peaks over 4,000 metres, while the Haute Route from Chamonix to Zermatt is a legendary 180-kilometre traverse. Zermatt, entirely car-free and reached by single-gauge railway, sits at the foot of the Matterhorn. The Klein Matterhorn cable car climbs to 3,820 metres, just below the peak's own 3,883-metre summit, for year-round glacial views. Switzerland's public transport network is among the most comprehensive in the Alps, easing the need for a rental car.
