Frequently Asked Questions About the Most Downloaded Mobile Games of 2025

## Frequently Asked Questions About the Most Downloaded Mobile Games of 2025

How were the most downloaded mobile games of 2025 ranked? The ranking aggregates 2025 calendar-year download totals from the App Store and Google Play, combining Sensor Tower and data.ai estimates across all markets.

Are these the most downloaded mobile games globally or in the US? The list reflects global downloads across all regions, not a single country. Several titles rank differently in US-only or India-only charts.

Do these download counts include pre-installed or re-downloads? Yes, the figures include new installs, re-installs, and pre-loads as reported by the analytics providers; this matches industry-standard download rankings.

Which game on this list is the most downloaded mobile game of all time? Subway Surfers, at #1, remains the most downloaded mobile game ever, having surpassed 4 billion lifetime downloads.

Are all games on the list free to play? All ten titles are free-to-download. Several, including PUBG Mobile, Honor of Kings, Genshin Impact Mobile, and Monopoly GO!, monetize primarily through in-app purchases.

Downloads Measure Something Different Than Revenue or Players

A "most downloaded" chart and a "most played" or "highest revenue" chart rarely share the same names, because a download costs a player nothing. Free-to-play games with tiny install sizes and low device requirements have every advantage in a pure install count, since anyone with an older or budget phone can grab them instantly — while a heavier, more demanding game gets filtered out of the running before it's even opened once, no matter how deep or well-reviewed it is.

Why Simple Games Win the Install Race

Free-to-play publishers spend heavily to drive installs precisely because the download itself doesn't need to earn anything — the business model bets on a small share of that huge install base spending later, through in-app purchases or ads, to cover the cost of acquiring everyone else. A massive download count is best read as a leading indicator of advertising reach and low-friction design, not proof that a game is the one people are actually still playing, or spending money in, months later.
