Marmite (and Vegemite) has built its brand on polarization, with “Love it or hate it” serving as its official slogan since 1996. This yeast extract spread contains beneficial nutrients, such as 2.5 mg of vitamin B12 per serving, which contributes to 100% of the daily value. However, its intense umami-saltiness and sticky, tar-like texture tend to repel as many as they attract. The divisiveness of Marmite is such that it is often rejected on first taste by international consumers, making it a unique outlier among common condiments.
