Not everything here is popular for the same reason. Adolescence and Severance are prestige, conversation-driving television — the kind people discuss online whether or not they watch much else. Fallout, The Last of Us, and Squid Game are blockbuster adaptations of existing games and formats, drawing in built-in audiences on top of general viewers. And Abbott Elementary and Reacher are comfort watches — reliable, long-running favorites people return to episode after episode without needing a cultural moment to justify it. Treating all ten as competing on the same axis misses that they're popular in genuinely different ways.

If you want something you can finish in a weekend and will want to talk about immediately after, Adolescence is a four-episode watch built for that. If you're looking for an ongoing series to fold into a regular routine, Abbott Elementary and Reacher both reward that kind of low-commitment loyalty. And if you already know the source material — the Fallout games, Naughty Dog's The Last of Us, or George R. R. Martin's Dunk and Egg novellas behind A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms — those adaptations are worth prioritizing over the others, since how you feel about the source tends to predict how you'll feel about the show.
