CATL

No company in sodium-ion has more weight to throw around than CATL, and it shows: holding roughly 37% of the global lithium-ion market gave it the manufacturing infrastructure to out-produce every rival, BYD included. CATL's Naxtra sodium-ion cell family targets energy density competitive with mainstream LFP chemistry, aimed at EV ranges suitable for mainstream vehicles, while a newer large-format cell for stationary storage pushes toward higher capacity, long cycle life, and a wide operating temperature range. Backing all of it is a substantial, multi-year sodium-ion R&D and manufacturing investment, along with partnerships across major Chinese automakers. CATL has said it expects sodium-ion to capture a meaningful share of the global battery market in the years ahead — a bet only a company this size could make.
